My name is Kelly Brown Jr.,(aka "Metalwizard"), Sole Owner/operator of Custom Welding & Automotive. I own 3 Vw,s at this time a 60 Double Door which is on hold. Also i'm latching onto a early 15 Window Deluxe, and a 55 Oval Bettle. I just got to get them home. I'm a 46 yr old mechanic, welder, fabricator.

I was originally born in Cosby, Tn. just east of Knoxville. I have been living in Archdale, North Carolina since 1984. Custom Welding & Automotive has been in full time business since 1997, I have been welding and working on cars in some capacity for over 30 years now, i have restored various kinds and years, over the years, but VW's seem to be my claim to fame, specifically type 2's, but that is now growing into all types 1,2,3,.

We also fabricate parts. These are done on a as need basis most of the time, we don't have allot of storage space so stocking alot is not possible. Look at our PARTS page for some pics of them.

I have several jobs to our credit and more should be surfacing soon ,the 62 Hatch Top Westy belonging to Danny Morganelli of Wrightsvillebeach Nc was a show winner,it was tragically lost to a engine bay fire in 1998, There is a web page up with pics of the 62 posted by Nick, Danny's dad,

A 67 Deluxe of Gene Hickman of West End NC, also a show winner ,a 1968 Dodge Charger owned by Chester McGaha of Newport Tn, a 62 slider sunroof bug i installed suicide doors on it and did some custom sheet metal work to it, a 66 Deluxe Bus owner Neil Pickett of Asheville,NC , also a 58 hardtop deluxe for Neil too just finished July of 2000. In 2001 we finished Kent Kzschoche's 56 Standard Sunroof, from St.Louis, MO. Toma and Karen Kellers 66 21 Window deluxe, Baltimore MD. Douglas Lloyd's 67 Deluxe, Oak Ridge Tn. Bill Kruysman's 74 Thing from Tega Cay, SC was back for some exterior sheet metal work. These kind folks tagged me with the nickname "Metalwizard" and it stuck,,.
